Review time! It was a very busy year for Anything But Gray Events. This year was a year full off amazing clients, colorful weddings and a whopping 4 grooms named Michael!! How does that happen?! Josephine + Johnny at York Manor 

We started off the year with BBQ, a hand painted backdrop of a vintage moon and a castle bounce house for Josephine & Johnny’s wedding at York Manor in Highland Park. This was an international affair; bringing in family and friends from all over the world. They wanted a vintage feel with some pops of playful touches. Guests were welcome to jump in the bounce house during cocktail hour and later enjoy karaoke.

Ashley + Chase at City Club Los Angeles: 

Ashley & Chase celebrated with a black tie wedding at City Club Los Angeles. As as a young and fun couple they wanted to mix their fun playful styles with their families more traditional, refined style. A tablescape of dramatic gold, black and red set the tone for this elegant yet whimsical evening on the 51st floor overlooking the lights of DTLA. Their signature popsicle champagne cocktail, strolling magicians at cocktail hour and processional streamers were a huge hit!

Victorian Styled Shoot at Big Daddy’s Antiques: 

Several times a year, aside from our wedding clients, we will collaborate on styled shoots. This moody Victorian inspired styled shoot was a departure from my typically colorful style but rather showcased my interest in the macabre. The inspiration behind this styled shoot was fusing the ideas of old and new together, bringing a moody Victorian vintage aesthetic to a modern love story showcasing two brides. Megan + Mike’s Northern California Wedding: 

Then came #TheRedwoodWedding in Northern California for Megan and Michael’s Game of Thrones inspired wedding. The immense redwood trees set a calm and beautiful scenic backdrop for their magical outdoor ceremony and colorful dance party reception that included food tucks, an ice cream bar and personalized touches that reflected the TV show that brought them together. Check out more of this wedding on Offbeat Bride.

Marilyn’s 85th birthday party in Beverly Hills: 

A special 85th birthday was next. The birthday girl loved the color red so we went red crazy. Her guests were treated to a step and repeat, photos of her life throughout the years and a delicious BBQ meal.

Jessica and Brian wanted an outdoor wedding filled with natural beauty at Maravilla Gardens in Camarillo that was refined yet relaxed. Lavender infused cocktails, a gourmet buffet, an almond flavored wedding cake AND mini donut station kept their guests happy and full of deliciousness!

Joanna + Michael at Ramona Convent:

Joanna and Michael’s wedding at Ramona Convent was slightly more unconventional. Joanna, and most of the women in her family, have attended and/or taught at Ramona Convent High School. This all-girls Catholic school tucked away in Alhambra is very near and dear to her family’s heart and was the perfect intimate setting for their private wedding ceremony in the chapel and reception for family and close friends. Joanna event tailored her graduation dress into her wedding dress. As someone who went to an all-girls Catholic school herself, I totally understood. And when the mother of the bride pulls you on to the dance floor, you go!

Ellen + Eric at Long Beach Museum of Art: 

Ellen and Eric (E2 as they were lovingly referred to) wanted lots of colors and patterns for their nuptials at the Long Beach Museum of Art. This was their families second wedding at the venue as Ellen’s sister had gotten married there just a few years before. They incorporated their cultures, love of the beach and utilized some of their talented friends who created hand drawn table numbers representing all the cities they have traveled too before as well as a a lego card box!

Harmony + Ernie at Agoura Hills Recreation Center: 

Harmony and Ernie were married at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center. The new building is modern and full of floor to ceiling windows that flood in light and open up to a sprawling green lawn perfect for outdoor ceremonies. Their colorful wedding was a celebration of their bond and family. Don’t you just love their matching eyeglasses? Harmony was escorted down the aisle by their son, Storm, which brought a tear to everyone’s eye! Guests were treated to authentic Mexican street tacos and a mini donut station. One guest even danced so hard that she fractured her ankle and had to go to the ER. Talk about a dance party! Love Colorfully Styled Shoot at The Fig House:

And the second styled shoot for the year, Love Colorfully, was at one of my favorite technicolor venues in Los Angeles, The Fig House! With this shoot we wanted to showcase everything colorful, whimsical and out of the box. We didn’t want to take the safe route at all. This shoot makes me so happy because it represents what I believe weddings should be – a true reflection of the couple no matter what! There should be no such thing as a cookie cutter wedding because every couple is unique. Soon to be featured in Green Wedding Shoes.

Aja + Steve at Big Daddy’s Antiques 

Aja and Steve wanted a BIG, blow out party for everyone they loved, which was a lot (around 230 guests)! Big Daddy’s Antiques was the backdrop to their Fall boho chic wedding ceremony and reception. Aja is a flower child. I know this because I have known her for more than 15 years. Steve is the pragmatist businessman. Together, they are an unstoppably beautiful combination of unending love. She is like a balloon in the sky and he is holding the string in his hands. While she helps him to float a bit, he helps her stay near the ground and not hit the sun! We had such a great time planning out their wedding and I am so thrilled to share that they called me on NYE to tell me they are expecting their first child! Shall we start planning the baby shower?

Amanda + Mike at The Natural History Museum: 

Amanda and Mike wanted to blend their loves of history, dinosaurs and everything nerd chic! How do you do that? You get married at The Natural History Museum. As an LA native myself I have visited museum for three decades and to actually get a chance to plan a wedding there was pretty exciting. And to answer your question, yes, it was truly a night at the museum! From amazing food and specialty cocktails, customized signage and maps, agate place cards, a dessert display, a dancing dinosaur, prehistoric inspired centerpieces all the way to a Back to the Future cover band. This wedding truly had it all!

Nicole and Rob wanted a California style beach wedding at the Cabrillo Beach House in Redondo Beach. It was a beautiful clear day and the sky could not have been a brighter blue.

Amie + Ithamar at Oviatt Penthouse: 

Amie & Ithamar longed for an Art Deco inspired wedding at one of DTLA’s coolest vintage buildings, The Oviatt Penthouse. A venue that drips old world glamour and history was the perfect backdrop for this Hollywood couple. As professional puppeteers, their ceremony involved puppets that looked just like them! It was an intimate wedding that was full of so much love from all sides. Ithamar’s father’s speech during dinner brought me to tears as I stood in the back watching. Guests couldn’t get enough of their flamingo topper adorned tres leches wedding.

Lucianne & Michael’s NYE Wedding: 

Lucianne & Michael rounded out 2017 with a New Year’s Eve Wedding. As two people meeting each other later in their lives they wanted to focus more on the party and less on the formality of a wedding. By adding in some offbeat touches we were able to make their wedding/NYE party comes to life! Complete with several disco balls including IN the florals! The wedding was held at their officiant’s soundstage, Bangwagon Media.
